Do This In Memory Programme (2008 - 2009)

This is a parish based programme for the children in the parish receiving First Eucharist in May, 2009

LITURGICAL DATES FOR THE LITURGICAL YEAR (2008 - 2009)
We celebrate at the Vigil Mass for Sunday at 6.00pm every Saturday evening
The Sacred Space is maintained in the Church throughout the programme. The Space will change with the seasons
and provide a focal point for the children, their families and indeed the whole community. Each Sunday of the programme the children bring their own candle, which will be burned throughout Mass.

WEEK 1 - (Saturday 27th September, 2008)
Vigil Mass for the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This is the first Sunday of the Parish Preparation Programme, we welcome especially the children and their families as they prepare for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. Today we remember that their journey is our journey too, we are all on a journey of faith. It may seem that our preparation has begun very early in the school year, but we believe that something as important needs to be thought about very carefully.

WEEK 2 - (Saturday 18th October, 2008)
Vigil Mass for Mission Sunday

On this week we remember all those who work as missionaries, we are also reminded of our own call to share the Good News within our families and our community.

WEEK 3 - (Saturday 22nd November, 2008)
Vigil Mass for the Feast of Christ the King

On this Sunday the Church year comes to an end, it seems natural to focus on beginnings and endings. We look to the beginning of the new Church Year. We remember all who have died. In the Gospel Jesus reminds us that being a friend of his also involves being friends with everybody with whom we come into contact with in our lives.

WEEK 4 - (Saturday 20th December, 2008)
Vigil Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Advent

As we stand on the threshold of Christmas the pace of things speeds up so that often the spiritual side tends to get lost. We pause to make room in our hearts and minds so that with Mary we may say 'Yes' to Christ.

WEEK 5 - (Saturday 17th January, 2009)
Vigil Mass for the Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

On this Sunday the Gospel invites us like the Apostles to 'come and see'. This is also an invitation to spend time with Jesus, we respond to this invitation when we gather together to celebrate Mass and when we take time to pray in our daily lives.

WEEK 6 - (Saturday 14th February, 2009)
Vigil Mass for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

This week the focus was on the healing prayers being placed in the Sacred Space for all the sick. St. Brigid's Cross was displayed. Candlemass is represented here with candles. Also in the Sacred Space is the book that contains the names of the children who are preparing to receive their First Eucharist.

WEEK 7 - (Saturday 28th February, 2009)
Vigil Mass for the First Sunday of Lent

The Sacred Space reflects the season of Lent. We see the space transformed into a desert or wilderness scene, reminding us of the time Jesus spent in the desert.

WEEK 8 - (Saturday 4th April, 2009)
Vigil Mass for Passion (Palm) Sunday

For forty dsys we have been preparing to celebrate Holy Week and Easter, the palms remind us of Jesus' journey into Jerusalem at the beginning of that first Holy Week. The retelling of his Passion sets the tone for the rest of the celebrations this week. Together with Christians all over the world we will celebrate the mystery of Christ's love for us. In these as we recall his pain and suffering we are reminded of how real that love is.

WEEK 10 - (Saturday 13th June, 2009)
Vigil Mass for the Feast of Corpus Christi

The Feast of Corpus Christi highlights three of the most important aspects of the Mass. Every Sunday we gather to celebrate, we are nourished by the Body of Christ, and as members of the Body of Christ we are sent forth to help carry out the work of Jesus in the world.

We are grateful for the work of the Liturgy Team
